Accommodation

Guest Accommodation
Surrounded by 190 acres of private jungle wilderness, Pashan Garh draws inspiration from the dry-packed stone houses of north-central India. With breathtaking views over the dense forest, as well as a nearby waterhole, the stone cottages are approached by large flagstones. Inside, dry packed stone walls and airy architecture create the impression of a summer pavilion. Accents of ebony, chocolate and white combine with a dramatic central shower in the bathroom to create a clean, strong texture. A vast stone veranda with a comfortable day bed provides shelter from the heat of the day. Delicious Indian fare, prepared by expert chefs, is discreetly delivered using the unobtrusive butler hatches.

Guest Areas
The guest areas celebrate Haveli design and are centred around a spacious central courtyard, set amongst giant banyan trees. Panna stone, mined on the outskirts of Panna town itself, and Jaisalmer stone from Rajasthan, is used for all the stonework. Large decks flow between the dining area and the guest area, with their exposed roof rafters and raw stone walls. A lookout tower offers expansive views over the nearby watering hole. An infinity pool invites guests for a refreshing dip, while inviting aromas waft from the open, interactive kitchen. Vintage kists, rich textiles and an array of other treasures bring softness and warmth to the chunky stone interiors.

A Day At Pashan Garh

Upon arrival at Khajuraho, you will be warmly welcomed by your chauffeur and whisked away on an air conditioned journey by road to Pashan Garh.

The Pashan Garh team will greet you at the lodge entrance with a refreshing drink. A butler will then escort you to your stone cottage, spread out along a small stream on 190 acres of private jungle wilderness. Mouthwatering lunch platters are served on the terraced veranda of the dining room or delivered to the privacy of your cottage through an unobtrusive butler hatch. Then you have the option to relax in your private veranda machan, try your hand at traditional Indian recipes in the interactive kitchen or enjoy a guided birding walk in the extensive grounds.

Later, at afternoon tea, you will be introduced to your expert &Beyond trained naturalist, who will give you a full orientation of what to expect on your safari drives into the jungle. You will then depart on your afternoon drive in an open 4x4 safari vehicle through the tropical forests, deep ravines and dense thick jungles of Panna. Witness the region’s rich wildlife, including sloth bear, leopard, wolf, hyena and jackal, as well as nilgai, sambar, chital and wild boar. Try your luck at spotting Panna’s ten Star Birds among the more than 200 bird species in the Park. Stop to take in the Indian sunset with a refreshing sundowner.

As you arrive back at the lodge after sunset, ice-cold signature cocktails are waiting on the guest veranda. Dinner may be served in the dining room or you may enjoy a surprise palanquin dining experience with a jungle dinner in an ox cart. Savour delicious Indian cooking, including Haandi dishes served in earthenware pots. After dinner, indulge in decadent desserts, served with tea, coffee or cognac. You will then be escorted back to your stone cottage for a peaceful night’s sleep.

The next morning, your personal wake-up call will include the delivery of freshly squeezed orange juice, tea, coffee and homemade biscuits through the butler hatch for you to enjoy before departing on your morning jungle safari. After a morning filled with adventure, return to the lodge for a hearty breakfast. Enjoy freshly squeezed fruit and/or vegetable juice, or get hooked on the traditional Indian lassis! The various platters are laden with toast, jams and marmalades, chutneys, homemade muesli, fresh fruits and assorted cheese. Hot breakfasts are also prepared according to guests’ preferences, with eggs and fresh breads. Or sample some traditional Indian fare: parathas (homemade salted pancakes with potatoes, paneer and cauliflower), poha (flat saffron rice with fresh vegetables), kathi rolls (Indian style wraps stuffed with chicken, lamb or vegetables) or pao bhaji (fresh bread rolls served with tomato and onion).

After breakfast, you can indulge in a day visit to the famous 10th century temples of Khajuraho, a world famous World Heritage Site. These intricately carved sandstone temples feature erotic sculptures dating back 1 000 years.

We hope you will leave Pashan Garh well rested and already planning your return visit!

Food At Pashan Garh

At Pashan Garh, delights for the taste buds begin from the moment guests arrive and are greeted at the lodge entrance with a refreshing drink and continue with a celebration of Indian cuisine that combines the freshest of ingredients with the most authentic local recipes.  Inspired by home-cooked specialties, the lodge's food offers the best of Bundelkhand-style cuisine.

Mouth watering lunch platters are served on the terraced veranda of the dining room or delivered to the privacy of the guest's cottage through an unobtrusive butler hatch.  The menu may often feature delicacies straight from the lodge's own garden, such as the glazed wild gooseberries served with cheese at lunch.  River sole prepared in a delicious yoghurt marinade flavoured with turmeric, saffron, ginger and garlic is a perennial favourite.

Pashan Garh's signature palanquin dinner features a sampling menu served to guests who are romantically seated in intimate ox wagons.  The meal begins with a selection of snacks such as chicken seekh kebab layered with lamb mince and roasted tandoori mushrooms.  The meal continues with a range of traditional breads, which are rolled up and eaten with various toppings, from the traditional chicken tikka masala to minced lamb and vegetarian delights like green lentils or grated paneer cheese.  Pashan Garh is famous for its decadent dessert tarts in flavours such as caramelised banana, honey, date and rose petal or coconut, milk and sugar.

A traditional thali (or platter) dinner at Pashan Garh may include small servings of five or more regional dishes, accompanied by delicious breads and rice and followed by desert.  Served in beaten silver dishes, guests are delighted by flavours such as black lentil dumplings and green mint flavoured chicken curry, served with yoghurt flavoured with roasted mustard seeds and followed by sweetened wheat porridge cooked with cardamom.

The lodge's interactive kitchen is also the ideal location for a kadhai dinner, during which chefs introduce guests to the intricacies of Indian spices and gravies before preparing their favourite dish right in front of their eyes.

Must Do

Living in a luxurious sandstone cottage is a very earthy yet utterly luxurious experience.  The cottages evoke an era gone by, as they have been built using dry packed Panna stone masonry - a technology that doesn’t use cement.  All across the lodge, against the rough Panna stone, sit rich furnishings, cotton chandeliers and few eccentric touches.  The Gazebo’s or salas on your private deck, inspired from the nearby erotic Khajuraho temples, are ideal hang out spaces with your loved one.

A feeling of space - 200 acres of private wilderness, with just 12 cottages dotting the property.  The large windows allow uninterrupted views of the surrounding wilderness.  Guests also have the option of taking leisurely nature walks accompanied by our trained naturalist to track birds and animals found on the property.

River cruise on the Ken river - The boat ride by the park in the Ken river is a must do.  The river is very picturesque with steep rocky banks.  There are several species of water birds that one can look out for, and to catch large Mugger crocodiles basking in the sun is such a thrill.

Breakfast in the park overlooking a gorge - Panna national park offers a variety of scenic spots to enjoy your breakfast.  Take a break during your morning safari and soak in the view of the river valley below as you sip freshly brewed coffee or watch different species of vultures roosting and taking flight at the deep gorge.

Night camera traps activity - The property has a number of night time prowlers.  Keen to know which creature passed by your cottage at night?  Set up a camera trap with the help of your naturalist before turning in for the night.  Check out the pictures taken by the camera the next morning and prepare to be amazed.

Enjoy a cozy palanquin dinner with your loved one, under the starry skies and a 100 lanterns all around - Revel in the camaraderie with other guests as you swap stories by the bon fire under a starry sky and flickering lanterns.  Then proceed to dinner in a cozy palanquin meant for two, reminiscent of bullock caravans of earlier times.
