Two weeks covering the main tourist highlights of the North and South Island.  From the City of Sails, to geothermal wonders,  to alpine areas and rainforest. Finishing in the stunning capital of Wellington.

DAY 1 - Arrive Auckland

On arrival in Auckland, you will be met by a Hallmark Limousines representative and transferred to your hotel by private vehicle.

Please note: For any international arrival transfers,  the driver's maximum waiting time for you to clear Customs and Immigration is 1.5 hours. Please ensure your clients are aware of this, as no compensation will be provided if they exceed this time, and the driver has to leave. After clients have cleared Customs and Immigration they are to proceed to the arrivals hall.  Their arranged transfer driver will be to their left hand side with a sign displaying their name.  Please do not follow the signs that say exit as they will miss their driver.

Transfer rating is based upon the following policies:

  • International Airport (inbound transfer) standing time 1.5 hours
  • Collection to Airport (outward transfer) standing time 20 minutes
  • Any recall/return, additional standing time may have charges as applicable.

Sedan luggage is deemed as 1 large suitcase and 1 soft bag per person (to a maximum of 2 persons) for inward transfers. If 3 passengers are requested to be place in a sedan with greater luggage, the company has right on charge or request the passengers utilize alternative solutions for their luggage (extra).

AUCKLAND - an exciting, sporting and cultural city, sprawled on a narrow isthmus, between two harbours. The Waitemata and Manukau Harbours, are a main feature of the city, along with numerous volcanic cones such as Mount Eden and Rangitoto Island. The city's many beaches, marinas and parks, make it ideal for outdoor pursuits such as yachting, rugby, cricket or a day at the beach. The Auckland metropolitan area is New Zealand's biggest city, and the population mix of European, Maori, and Pacific Islander, make Auckland the largest Polynesian city in the World.

Sky Tower Admission

Admission include to the main observation deck of Sky Tower. Sky Tower - The Sky Tower which at 328 metres high offers a clear view towards the Pacific Ocean as well as of the city of Auckland.

DAY 2 - Auckland

On our Auckland Tours you will see why Auckland is known as one of the world’s most beautiful cities and regions in the world! DAY 3 - Auckland / Matamata / Rotorua 

Pickup from your hotel and travel south from Auckland over the Bombay Hills to the rich farmland of the Waikato region. You travel through the heritage town of Cambridge where tree-lined streets add to the English-style atmosphere. From here your journey takes you through undulating green hills reminding you that you are approaching Hobbiton Shire.
On arrival at Shire’s Rest you embark on your Hobbiton movie set tour. This location is the largest “green set” in the world and the only place where you get an emotional response with a movie set in a natural setting. You see 37 hobbit holes, the Mill and double arch bridge, the party tree and visit the Green Dragon Inn. At this stunning location you can take a photo at the door of Bilbo’s house, “Bag End”, looking out over the whole set to the hills in the distance.After the tour take the Shuttle from Shire's Rest to Rotorua.Trip includes: Transport with full commentary from Auckland to Hobbiton and shuttle transport on to Rotorua, admissions and guided tour of Hobbiton Movie Set.

ROTORUA - located on a volcanic plateau, and formerly a spa town, Rotorua is most famous for its geothermal activity. Rotorua is the main place in New Zealand where aspects of Maori traditions can be seen, from wood carvings, and meeting houses, to a Hangi Dinner and Maori dances. Native and introduced tree species abound locally and combined with several picturesque lakes, Rotorua is a fascinating mix of culture and nature.

Te Puia – Guided Tour + Te Po Hangi & Concert

Today you will be collected from your hotel for your Cultural experience. Enjoy a guided tour of the valley with one of Te Puia’s world renowned guides. As part of the tour you will visit New Zealand’s national carving and weaving schools and witness these disciplines in practice, under the guidance of our full-time master carvers and weavers. You will visit  award winning interactive galleries, see a kiwi bird up close, and most importantly, hear our stories as told by the descendants of the valley. To conclude the tour you will visit the geyser and mud pools and then be invited to have a short rest prior to the beginning of the evening experience. Traditionally, Te Pō is an intimate time for sharing knowledge. Te Pō is also Te Puia’s authentic evening cultural experience – a feast of food, culture and friendship. It begins every night at Te-Heketanga-a-Rangi (The Heavenly Origins). The space comprises twelve monumental carvings reaching skywards, each one representing a Māori diety. Hear the stories of the past and see how these traditions live on today. Feeding guests is regarded by Māori as an honour and a sign of a tribe’s mana (standing), so a sumptuous banquet is provided during the evening. This banquet combines contemporary cuisine with a traditional hangi (earth-cooked oven meal), where kai (food) is steam-cooked by hot rocks in the earth, giving it a delicious smoky flavour. Following dessert, you will be transported by our people movers to enjoy the spectacular lighting of the Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley. Guests can wander around the illuminated natural attractions, including Pohutu geyser.

DAY 4 - Rotorua / Christchurch

This morning return shuttle transfers included to Waimangu.

Waimangu Thermal Valley is home to the Waimangu Geothermal System which is the newest in the World. Here you can see the Frying Pan Lake, Inferno Crater, and some rare and unusual plants and regenerating rainforest. Your admission today is for a Waimangu Valley Walk.

Today you will be collected from your hotel by Hallmark Limousines and transferred to Rotorua Airport. Fly Rotorua to Christchurch (flight not included)

On arrival in Christchurch you will be met by an A2B Luxury Lines representative and transferred to your hotel by private vehicle.

CHRISTCHURCH - the Garden City, lies on the level plains that initially attracted the closely knit Church of England settlers that settled the area. The largest of the South Island cities, Christchurch retains something of the English nature of its origins - the willow and oak-lined River Avon and clustered mediaeval stone buildings.

DAY 5 - Wanaka

Great Sights Christchurch/Mt Cook/Wanaka including lunch (7.30am – 6.30pm)

This morning you will be collected from your hotel by Great Sights. The majestic beauty of the South Island is a must for any visitor to the South Island and one of the best ways to view the spectacular scenery is aboard a Great Sights luxury coach. This tour takes you from Christchurch, through diverse farmland to Lake Tekapo, where you can view the solitary Church of the Good Shepherd. Your tour continues along the Tasman River before arriving at the location of New Zealand’s tallest mountain Aoraki / Mount Cook. There is time to experience an optional scenic helicopter or ski plane flight (weather permitting) before departing for Lake Wanaka (shuttle from Tarras to Wanaka).

Lunch is included today at the Hermitage.

WANAKA - faces north across Lake Wanaka, to views of the surrounding mountains, which are often reflected on the Lake's surface on calm days. Poplars and willows grow around the Lake's edge, affording a colourful show during Autumn.  Wanaka is best known for boating, fishing and skiing at the Cardrona and Treble Cone ski-fields.

DAY 6 - Queenstown

Today you will be transferred by coach from Wanaka to Queenstown with Wanaka Connexions.

Skyline Gondola & Restaurant – Return Gondola

Enjoy a return Skyline Gondola ride to the summit of Bob’s Peak where you can enjoy panoramic views of Queenstown and Lake Wakatipu.

QUEENSTOWN - is the South Island's most popular resort, set alongside the shores of Lake Wakatipu, under the gaze of the Remarkables Ranges. See the contrast of smooth glacier rounded hills, and jagged mountain summits that reach high above the ancient ice floor. The town is renowned for its jet boating, bungy-jumping, skiing and awe-inspiring scenery. Local story has it, that the gold prospectors of the 19th century pronounced the town as "fit for any Queen", and so she was called Queenstown.

DAY 7 - Milford Sound

Today, you will be collected from your accommodation by Real Journeys and travel from Queenstown along the shores of Lake Wakatipu, and through rolling countryside to Te Anau.  After a short break at Te Anau, continue via the spectacular Milford Road, to Milford Sound.  Board the Milford Mariner for a relaxing cruise of Milford Sound.  The cruise provides excellent viewing opportunities and plenty of time is available to enjoy waterfalls, rainforest, mountains and wildlife.  An on board nature guide provides interpretation in English only.  Return transport by luxury coach to Queenstown. 

MILFORD SOUND:  Stunning surroundings at the heart of Te Wahipounamu World Heritage Area. In Maori legend, the fiords were created not by rivers of ice, but by Tu Te Raki Whanoa, a godly figure who came wielding a magical adze uttering incantations. Milford Sound (Piopiotahi) is without doubt his finest sculpture. Luxuriant rainforest clings to sheer rock walls washed with waterfalls. In the foreground stands Mitre Peak, dominating the skyline. Whatever the fiord’s mood, teeming with rain or with sun glistening on deep water, it will inspire you.

DAY 8 - Franz Josef

1610hrs Arrive in Franz Josef late afternoon and check in at your hotel and enjoy a free evening in Franz Josef Glacier.Please note this is a commuter service with many stops and limited commentary.Schedule subject to timetable changes

FRANZ JOSEF GLACIER - originally named Victoria, after Queen Victoria of England, geologist Julius Von Haast, renamed it, Franz Josef, after the current Emperor of his homeland, Austria. The Glacier is pale blue/green ice that has retreated and advanced many times over the years. A walk from the carpark to the Glacier terminal will give you some impressive views and an idea of the immense size of the Glacier itself. The township of Franz Josef is a small town based around the tourist and supply trade.

DAY 9 - Fox Glacier

Return shuttle transfers to/from Fox Glacier included.

Fox Glacier Guiding - Fox Trot – Half Day Walk (departs 8.35am & 1.35pm, plus 9.35am &2.35pm in summer, duration 4-4.5 hours)

Please bring:  3 - 4 layers of warm upper body clothing (Jeans are not recommended on wet days as they become very cold and uncomfortable to wear). Sunglasses and sun protection.A day pack, a drink and snacks are useful. Your own boots and raincoats may be suitable. For winter trips bring a warm hat and gloves. Trip includes: Guide, ground transport, boots and socks, crampons, raincoat, waterproof over trousers, alpenstock. Board one of Alpine Guides' historic buses for the short drive through the rainforest and into the glacial valley. Your guide leads you on a walk beside the river bed to our secret track which zig-zags slowly uphill for thirty minutes through ferns and regenerating temperate rainforest. From its high point enjoy fantastic views of the glacier and its upper and lower icefalls then wind your way down to the edge of the ice. This is the time to don your instep crampons specially designed for these ice conditions and  follow the ice steps cut by the guides. Walk amongst crevasses and ice ridges  that lead you onto the middle of the glacier for spectacular views of the icefall and lower glacier. At least one hour is spent on the ice and, depending on glacial conditions before returning to the bus using either the same secret track or a different track that follows the edge of the ice.Your guide will be with you for the duration of the trip and will enjoy passing on fascinating details of the natural history of this landscape.

13:45hrs Depart Greymouth Train Station. Today you will board the TranzAlpine scenic train departing from one coast of New Zealand and arriving at the other. Your train journey is 223.8 kilometres long and takes just four and a half hours. There are 16 tunnels, and 5 viaducts, the highest being the Staircase standing at 73 metres. From your carriage you’ll see the fields of the Canterbury Plains, beautiful gorges and river valleys of the Waimakariri River. The spectacular Southern Alps and the lushness of Beech rain forest. An open air viewing carriage allows you to get even closer to the stunning scenery and provides many opportunities to photograph your favourite spots. There’s a lot to look forward to before arriving at your destination.

DAY 11 - Kaikoura 

This morning you will be met by an A2B Luxury Lines representative at your hotel and transferred to Tranz Scenic by private vehicle.

Tranz Scenic Christchurch to Kaikoura (6.40am-9.54am)

06:40hrs Report to Christchurch Train Station.

07:00hrs Depart Christchurch Train Station.  

Today you will board the TranzCoastal train which travels between the delightful port of Picton and Christchurch and vice versa. Christchurch is the South Island’s largest city. Enjoy a scenic feast of New Zealand, with the Kaikoura mountain ranges on one side of your train and the rugged Pacific Ocean coastline on the other. Along the way you pass though the village of Kaikoura and travel through some of New Zealand’s finest horticultural and farmland areas. If you are lucky enough you will see some amazing wildlife such as dolphins, seals and penguins from the comfort of your train carriage.  One of the world's most scenic train journeys, the TranzCoastal travels through 22 tunnels and crosses 175 bridges, one of them being New Zealand’s only road-rail bridge.  The TranzCoastal includes an open air viewing carriage where all your senses are awakened with the clean, fresh, sea air.

Whale Watch Kaikoura Whale Watch Tour (departs 7.15am, 10am, 12.45pm, duration 2.5 hours)

A typical whale watch tour (boat excursion duration 2.5 hours) may encounter New Zealand fur seals, pods of dusky dolphins and the endangered wandering albatross. Depending on the season you may also see migrating humpback whales, pilot whales, blue whales and southern right whales.  Kaikoura often hosts the world's largest dolphin—the orca—and is home to the world's smallest and rarest—the hector's. Kaikoura also attracts the largest concentration and variety of seabirds on mainland New Zealand including 13 species of albatross, 14 varieties of petrels and seven types of shearwater. Designed for New Zealand whale watching tours, their modern catamarans are equipped with engines that minimise underwater noise and toilets that never pollute the sea. The main passenger cabin is enclosed and large outside decks offer great viewing and photo opportunities.

KAIKOURA - means "to eat crayfish", from the Maori words "Kai" meaning food, and Koura meaning crayfish. You can savour crayfish here in Kaikoura, view whales and dolphins at play, or visit local galleries and craft shops, or take a walk along the Peninsula Walkway. If you travel out onto the Kaikoura Peninsula and look back towards the mountains, an amazing tableau will appear before you. The seaward Kaikoura Range appears to rise from the sea, with the snow-capped Southern Alps as a backdrop.

DAY 12 - Wellington 

Taxi transfer to Kaikoura Railway Station.

Interislander Picton to Wellington (departs 6.25am, 10.15am, 1.10pm, 6.05pm, 10.25pm plus 2.25pm from Nov 8 – Apr 30)

Please ensure that you report for your ferry sailing at least 45 minutes prior to sailing time. If you are taking your campervan on the ferry, please report 60 minutes prior to sailing time.Depart Picton on the Interislander Ferry to Wellington. Arrive Wellington, and disembark the Ferry.

For foot passengers (ie not travelling with a car or campervan) checked luggage allowance on Interislander services is 2 bags per person, maximum weight of 32 kg per item. One piece of small hand luggage can be taken onboard as personal hand luggage, larger items must be checked in. Extra luggage will only be taken if space is available and may incur extra costs.
Foot passengers must check-in at least 45 minutes prior to sailing time. If taking a vehicle (car, campervan, motorbike) on the ship, you must check-in at least 1 hour prior to sailing time.

WELLINGTON - the Capital city of New Zealand since 1865, is situated around Wellington harbour, its houses clinging precipitously to the steep hillsides. Wellington is renowned for its wind which is channelled through the Cook Strait, and causes the wind to blow most days. A clever blend of buildings, old and new, beautiful vistas of the city and harbour, and a cosmopolitan mix of culture and arts give Wellington its heart, and vibrant atmosphere.

DAY 13 - Wellington

Today's half day tour explores Wellington's city and shore. You will receive a three and a half hour tour and commentary from a local kiwi guide. The small size of the group ensures everyone receives a personal experience showcasing Wellington at its best.  Highlights include: Mt Victoria Lookout, City Sights, South Coast Beaches, Historic Suburbs, Botanic Gardens, paliament and a ride on the famous Wellington Cable Car.Complimentary Pick-up's from any inner city accommodation (subject to change)Please Note: Minimum numbers may apply


DAY 14 - Depart Wellington 

Today you will be collected from your hotel by a Crown Chauffeur Car Services representative and transferred to Wellington Airport. Note that check-in time is at least 2 hours prior for International Flights and 30 minutes for Domestic Flights.
